Week ending 15th June 1917 DESBOROUGH PRIVATE KILLED IN ACTION We regret to hear of the death in France of Pte. George Stratford, son of Mr and Mrs Stratford, Station Road, Desborough. The news was conveyed to his parents through a Rothwell chum writing to his friends, and in a P.S. he stated that Pte. Stratford had been killed in action. Mr and Mrs Stratford have six sons serving their King and Country, and were congratulated some 15 months ago by a letter from the King to the chairman of the Urban Council, Mr F. C. Fenton, wishing them every success and hoping that they would come through the struggle without any mishap. Previous to the war Pte. G. Stratford was employed by Messrs Cheaney and Son. He leaves a wife and two children.
