The connection to the Trethewey family goes back several generations. Elkana's father was Elias Trethewey Allen. His parents were William Allen and Loveday Allen nee Bray. Loveday was named after her maternal grandmother and gave her sons the names Elias and Trethewey from her mother's maiden name and her grandmother's maiden name.
