known January 1918
1918: A story recounted by Rose (Rosanna O'Connor - my mother) was that James' eldest son Michael (who was estranged from the family at the time) was out walking one day and saw a funeral procession down Bride Street and asked who it was; the answer came back "that's James O'Connor, the war hero" and that was the first he knew of his Dad’s demise. The story says that he joined the cavalcade and so was reacquainted with Rose and the other kids.
