Charles Henry Lambert

Lieutenant Charles Henry Lambert, A.V.C. was attached to 58 Bde RFA on 29 Jun 1915 while they were training at Witley Camp to be the brigade's veterinary officer. On 1 Jun 1915 he sailed with them from Devonport on SS "Knight Templar" arriving in Alexandria on 14 Jul 1915. On 26 Jul 15, while still in Alexandria, he was taken ill and taken the next day to No.17 General Hospital. He was replaced in 58 Bde by Lt S O'Donel. When his commanding officer, Maj Argyle visited him for at least the second time in hospital on 11 Aug 1915 he said that Lambert had had a relapse. Charles Lambert died in 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, on 17 Aug 1915 from a gastric ulcer perforation.
