Very little is known about Arthur Relfe. In the 1881 Census he is listed as being two months old and living with his parents, Alfred and Carolyn, and an elder sister and brother at 19 Tavistock Place, Marylebone, London. His father was a Pickle Warehouseman. In the Slinfold parish magazine for January 1915 he is named as one of those now serving. He was a Private, No. 5265, in the 1st Battalion of the London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). The 1917 Roll of Honour in the Church porch states that he was killed in action. And he is listed in the July 1919 parish magazine as one of those who gave their lives for King and Country. Arthur was awarded the Victory and the British Medals, and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, remembering all those missing in the Battles of the Somme with no known grave.
