Transcription: WESTON, GEORGE, Gunner, No. 11629, 45th Brigade, R.F.A., eldest s. of Eli Weston, of 4, Dove Hill, Midland Road, Royston, co. York, by his wife, Jane, dau. of Frank Binfield Longdon; b. Methley Junction, co. York, 29 June, 1882; educ. Royston; was a Miner; enlisted 30 April, 1900; served seven years with the Colours in India; joined the Reserve, and was called up on the outbreak of the European War; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 5 Aug. 1914, and was killed in action at Levantie [sic] 15 July, 1916. Buried at The Red House, near where he fell. A comrade wrote: “Your son was respected by all. No better comrade could any man have,” and again: “He was every inch a soldier.” Unm.
