A young soldier

William was my great Uncle. my father was named William after him. I unfortunately do not have a photo of him although I do remember my great Aunt his sister having a photo which unfortunately disappeared in the clearout after her death. William Marsh Haffenden was actually born and christened William Joel Haffenden and was the youngest and only son of David and Cicely Haffenden. The parents died when William was only a few years old and the family was brought up by their Grandfather William Marsh. He ran an ale house in Little Berkhampstead called 'The Rainbow and Dove' For some reason he is commemorated on the War memorial at Ewhurst Surrey. His name is spelt incorrectly as Hafferden but it is definitely him.He died at the battle of Loos and has no known grave. He was 22 years old.
