How George Morris died

How George Morris died

known 10th August 1918

My grand-uncle, William Edward Kenyon, was one of the 16 men killed on 10th August 1918 when 1 Coy, 32nd Divisional Train was attacked by a squadron of German aircraft. George Morris was probably one of those killed. According to the unit’s war diary, the attack began at 9.45 pm and lasted two hours. It involved probably six or nine aircraft and bombs and machine gun fire were used. One officer (Major John Grove), 15 men including William, and 58 horses were killed in that time. The attack took place at Le Quesnel and the majority of the men are buried in Fouquescourt CWGC Cemetery. See photographs here and under William’s Life Story. If anyone can add to this story, please contact me directly. I have traced the family history, as far as possible, of all the men involved. The unit had moved rapidly as part of the Army Service Corps Headquarters’ unit, supplying the men of the 32nd Division. In the first few days of the battle they covered 26 miles back and forth as the line advanced some eight miles. I’d love to know more! The full list of men I believe to have been killed during the attack is given under the entry for William Kenyon.
