My uncle Charles Fredrick Beckford was serving on the HMS Princess Irene which was a mine layer. On 27th May 1915 the ship exploded whilst moored off Sheerness and my uncle along with 377 others were killed. His body was never found. The wreck of HMS Princess Irene lies in Saltpan Reach on the river Medway off Sheerness in Kent
