The following appreciation of Mr George Wroe, pensioner CPO and late canteen manager at Whale Island, who died a few days ago, has been forwarded by "one who knew him": "Teddie" [sic] Wroe has gone. He will be missed by the Navy. When a man is known in the Senior Service by an abbreviation of his Christian name, it is proof of his popularity among his shipmates and companions. He was so beloved by his shipmates in the Excellent that when there was a vacancy for a canteen manager he was unanimously elected."
