known 29th December 1916

Week ending 29th December 1916 PHOTOGRAPHS – One day this week I had what I might call a “pathetic pleasure” of seeing the five framed photographs, each representing a lad from the Working Men’s Club who has fallen in the fray. They are large pictures, with very nice oak frames; and the names of the boys appear on each one respectively in Old English lettering with the words, “Who fell whilst fighting for his country” (and the date.) I congratulate the committee who had in hand the provision of these enlarged photos. When the grandchildren of present members grow into manhood they will be able to look upon these portraits as exemplifying what was done in these memorable days by Desborians for the honour of Old England. I am afraid that five – or even six – will not be the total number. It has come to my ears that Mr Fred Coe has been killed and that Mr Fred Crick is reported missing.
