Private William Hodgson

William was born in Fencote, Bedale in 1898. He was the eldest son of Isobel and Frederick William Hodgson. He had two sisters called Florrie and Edith and two brothers called Harry and Edwin. William's father was a horseman on farm work and his family moved to Morton on Swale, and then lived at Low Cottages, Ainderby Steeple.Northallerton. When war broke out he enlisted into the army at Richmond, joining the 7th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment as a Private. His service number was 3/7771. Sadly William was killed in action on 22 April 1917 at Flanders in France. William was 19 years old.
