Joe Hibbert died on 23rd October 1914, aged 30, whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Manchester Regiment. The Battalion was at Curragh, Ireland in August 1914. It landed at Le Havre on 17th August 1914 as part of the British Expeditionary Force of the 14th Brigade of the 5th Division. After the retreat from Mons in August, the Battalion fought at the First Battle of the Marne in September. He was killed in later fighting near Arras. He is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery, near Arras, France. He was a regular soldier who had been in the Manchester Regiment in 1911. Research supplied by John Maguire Joe Hibbert married Jane Ann Stanfield in 1914 in Aston u Lyne, Cheshire. Joe's attestation papers do survive and are on Ancestry.
