William Cartner

William died on 4th June 1915 whilst serving with the 1st/8th Battalion in Gallipoli. His name is recorded on the Helles Memorial to the missing on the Gallipoli Peninsular. He was killed at the Third Battle of Krithia. He was aged 23. His home address was 308 Clayton Lane, Clayton. He was born in Stone, Staffordshire. His parents were James, born in Liverpool, aged 42 in 1911, a coach painter’s labourer, and Susan, aged 45 in 1911, a skirt maker working at home, and originally from Staffordshire. William had 2 sisters, Florence and Elizabeth. Two children had died before 1911. William was a grocer’s assistant. Research by John Maguire
