Survived WWl only to be killed clearing German shells

Ernest John PARMENTER was the third child of Charles PARMENTER & Christiana BROWN. Ernest was baptised in St Andrew Church Halstead Essex U.K. on 4 April 1885, he worked in an iron foundry until enlisting 30 May 1915. Initially Ernest served in the Essex regiment and with about 30 other men transferred to the newly formed Machine Gun Company 1 January 1916. he served with the No. 35 Company which formed the A company of the 12th battalion 1 Mar 1918. Ernest survived the war but in January 1919 was involved in clearing German shells and in doing so met his death 13th January 1919. It appears that Ernest was initially buried in Ecaillon Churchyard (Nord) France and between 1926 & 1929 his body was moved to the Arras Road Cemetery Roclincourt. Ernest's mother received a long letter from Ernest's commanding officer and this was printed in the Halstead Gazette article attached. Ernest never married and he was my great uncle.
