60355 R J Asbury. 11 Platoon C Coy. 10 Batt. BEF France. Dear Sister and Brother. I expect by now my first letter from France has reached you. Well I am quite well up to now and hope I shall continue to be so. I see from mothers letter you are going on alright and the children are the same. By now I expect you are wondering what my opinion of things are, well from my short experience I don’t think there will be many advocates of war after this is over & neither will there be many desirous of being soldiers. But still we are in it now & must carry it through to the end. The weather is very nice here at present & we manage to enjoy the leisure time we get. I have just received an account of the Anniversary & the Ambulance Competition by the ? we won the cup & now we are after the shield. There is only one thing that troubles me, that is my mother, for you can imagine how irritable dad is now he’s helpless, I shall not be sorry when I am able to help her again. Well I think this is all now so I will conclude with best love to you both and the children.. From your loving Brother Dick. .
