Parents and Siblings His father was a painter and although both he and Alexander's mother were born in Carlisle judging by the birthplaces of their known children they moved to Scarborough around 1881-2 moving back to Carlisle between 1895 and 1901. In 1901 Alexander with his mother and older siblings were all living in the household of George Ullyett and Harriet, the latter being Thomas' eldest sister. They had married in Carlisle in the Sept Qtr 1899 10b 946. This may be because Alexander's father had died in Carlisle the Sep Qtr 1898 10b 366. His mother later remarried a man called William Cubby in Carlisle during the Sept Quarter 1904 10b 931. On Alexander's CWGC citiation his mother is described as the 'late Mrs F C Oliphant of 13 Roberts Road, Carlisle.'
