George Alfred Redman born 07.02.98 enlisted on 9th May 1916 in Picadilly. Records show that he wished to join the Royal Engineers but was instead appointed to the Royal Regiment of Artillery. He was 5'6 1/2" high with a 36 1/2" chest and weighed 132lbs. The first finger on his right hand was stiff due to an old injury (he was an instrument maker I believe). George was posted to France BEF 01.11.17 (177080 RH RFA). On 30.3.18 he was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound in his left thigh and left hand. On 03.09.1918 George was transferred compulsarily. Gunner G A Redman 226018, 4th anti-aircraft Sect. Royal Garrison Artillery died on 14.02.1919 aged 21 at Grove Military Hospital, Tooting, SW17. Remembered with honour Hanwell Cemetry. Cause of death broncho pneumonia, his father Frederick was by his side and received Georges personal effects. On 01.03.1922 Frederick signed for his sons British war and Victory medals.
