From an article published in the Northern Ensign, issue dated 7 November 1916: Pte. David Macaulay, Seaforth Highlanders, son of Mr and Mrs David Macaulay, 15 Kinnaird Street, Wick, has been posted as missing from 12th October. He enlisted in September, 1914, and proceeded to France in May, 1915. He was wounded in action in September, and after recovering he was drafted to France in May last. Before his enlistment he was engaged as a cooper with Messrs D. & J. Cormack, fishcurers, Wick.
