POSTCARD FROM THE FRONT

POSTCARD FROM THE FRONT

30th April 1918

Charles sent a postcard to his parents on 30th April 1918, only weeks before his death ‘Dear Mother and Father, just a line hoping to find you all in the best of health as I am full of a cold at present but we are out of the line so I will soon be better. Sorry to say we lost our officer [13 words crossed out by censor]. He was very well liked with all the boys. We wrote to his people. Love to all from your son, Charlie.’ Note: subsequent research shows that the officer referred to was 20 year old Second Lieutenant Fred Halliwell of Oldham.
