Robert Bakel, Frank and Walter's father, was born in 1851 in Haughley, Suffolk, as Robert BUCKLE, son of Charles Buckle, wheelwright. I have found the family in census returns in that village from 1841 to 1891. I can only assume when he came north to Barnsley the name was corrupted by his Suffolk accent pronouncing Buckle with a hard 'a' and Yorkshire Registrars and Census Enumerators writing down what they heard.
