At his attestation at Knutsford on the 3rd September 1914 Albert Curbishley gave his age as 19 years 2 months. This was inaccurate as census records show. On the 7th October 1914 his father, Joseph wrote to the regiment asking for his son to be released or assigned to duties at home. On the 19th September 1915 a major writes on Albert's service records " As this man is overage he will be held to serve". Seven days later Albert was posted to France with his battalion.
