The Battalion War Diary records: "Festubert May 25 142nd Brigade on our Right successfully attacked at GIVENCHY. Covered their advance by fire on enemy communication trenches. Maxims hard at work but no real targets. Sent 8 Bombers to help 8th Bn London Regt take J1 and J3. Trenches heavily shelled/ Started a communication trench from end of YELLOW ROAD to J1. Night very bright and exposed to heavy shell fire and machine guns but were able to dig enough to give cover to men crawling. Officers: 1 Killed. 3 Wounded. Other ranks 7 killed. 10 wounded.”
