The Rigby and Armitage Families

The Rigby and Armitage Families

The death of Douglas is recorded in a book entitles "The Clan" by George Faulkner Armitage an eminent artist, it states 'he went to France, came home wounded and as soon as possible went out again and was amongst those killed". The Armitage and Rigby family were connected by the marriage of G.F's father William to Jane Rigby. Douglas's father, Marshall Rigby, was legal adviser to the Armitage and Rigby Cotton Company for many years. G.F's younger sister was Ethel Armitage who was married to Richard Harding Watt, glove manufacturer and eminent in Knutsford due to his building of the eccentric houses in Legh Road and buildings such as the laundry rooms and Gaskell Tower in King Street.
