Lives of the First World War

The Blackburn family was well-known in Ramsgate as they ran several businesses in the town. There are still members of the family in Thanet. Richard served as a Stoker 1st Class and died along aith several other Ramsgate men when the Princess Irene blew up in Sheerness Harbour while being re-fitted on 27/05/1915. Richard is commemorated on the Chatham Naval memorial
