DESBOROUGH TERRITORIAL DIES AT THE DARDANELLES

DESBOROUGH TERRITORIAL DIES AT THE DARDANELLES

known October 1915

News has just been received from the War Office notifying the death from wounds of Pte A. Woolerson, which took place on September 19th. Pte Woolerson was employed by the Desborough Co-operative Society prior to the outbreak of the war, when he joined the Territorial Force. He was 22 years of age and well-known in Des - borough, being a member of the Working Men’s Club where the flag was hoisted at half-mast. His parents, Mr and Mrs Woolerson, have since the war removed to Northampton. They have two other sons in the British Army – Frank being invalided home some time ago and is now in Gillingham; whilst his brother Albert is in France doing, as he has stated, his “little bit” for the boys at home. AND LATER IN THE SAME NEWSPAPER, under the heading "DESBOROUGH NOTES": The realities of war have been brought home to us with considerable force by the news that a third Desborough man has been killed at the front – Pte Wollarson. The family are well-known and respected and the flag is at half-mast at the Working Men’s Club, of which he was a member. He was a single man and used to work with his father, who was manager at the Desborough clay pits and has moved to Northampton. We have not suffered anything like so heavily as Rothwell, in the number of local men killed. Still we feel the losses keenly. AND THE FOLLOWING WEEK, ANOTHER STORY: DESBOROUGH NEWS W.M.C. – A concert was held on Saturday evening at the Working Men’s Club, Mr Albert Marlow being in the chair. The engaged artistes were Miss L. Machin and Mr Leslie Barry, Mr Percy Coe being the pianist. At the close the “Dead March” was rendered as a token of respect to the late Private A. Woolerson, of the 1/4th Northants, whose death was recorded last week at the Dardanelles and who was a member of the club.
