Liverpool Echo, "An Oxton Officer"

Lieutenant W. Stanley Allan, of the 7th King's Liverpools, whose family resides at Maplehome, Bidston-road, Oxton, was killed on May 15 when leading his platoon in a night attack on the German trenches. He was formerly a student of the Liverpool University, where he took a prominent part in athletics. Prior to that he was a scholar of the Birkenhead School. After leaving the University he served in the head office of the Liverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company, and subsequently went to Canada. He was formerly a private in the 4th Cheshires,afterwards obtaining his lieutenancy in the 7th Liverpools. He came home from Canada at the commencement of the war, and went out to France in March. He was the eldest son of Mr. James Allan, a sub-manager of the London and Lancashire Fire Insurance Company, Liverpool.
