A Smithies Victim Private Meridith Roberts, Y. & L., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Roberts, of Smithies, has been killed in action at the age of 22 years. He enlisted in Dec., 1915, went to France in August of last year and was later drafted to India, returning again to France. The deceased soldier worked at Wharncliffe Woodmoor Colliery before joining the colours.
