Military Funeral at Barnsley

known 1st June 1918

Last week-end the mortal remains of Pte. Charles William Senior (220, who had been accidentally drowned at an East Midland Training Camp, were conveyed to his home at 29, Mill Street, Hoyle Mill, Barnsley, and from there were interred on Saturday in the presence of a large assembly of sympathising friends. The deceased soldier was accorded a military funeral, a firing party from Pontefract being in attendance under the command of Sergt. Hall, late of the Second Barnsley Battalion (who has been out to Egypt and France). The cortege was met at the railway station by Sergt. Cooper (of the same regiment as Sergt. Hall) and Pte. O. Westwood, and the following representatives of the Barnsley Branch of the National Federation of Discharged and Demobilised Sailors and Soldiers were present at the funeral: Messers. W. Featherstone, O. Westwood, J. W. Garbut, J. Hilton, B. Collins and G. H. Hutchinson.
