Good Samaritan

Good Samaritan

known 24th October 1915

Major Morton was on the Hospital Ship Devenha in the bed next to my Grandfather, William Loring. My Grandfather had just been told he was to have his leg off, and was not able to write. Maj. Morton took down a letter for William to his wife, which within a few hours proved to be the last communication she received from her husband as he died of gas gangrene that evening. Maj. Morton offered his assistance in a further letter which was sent before my Grandfather died.
