The last complete Battalion, therefore, to leave Salford was the 20th Lancashire Fusiliers, the 4th Salford Pals. Before departing Bexley Square for Cross Lane Station, each of the men had been given a red rose by women among the crowded confines in front of the Town Hall. Within hours they entered the camp at Morfa, just as the 2nd Salford Pals were leaving taken over by the Military Authorities for general purposes on August 3rd 1915, However, the Bantams association with the other Pals was broken and they were destined never to see action together. The Bantams in fact spent little time at Conway. They were brigaded, together with the 17th and 18th Lancashire Fusiliers from the Bury area and the 23rd Manchesters, in the 104 Brigade which was an all Bantams unit.
