Two family tragedies

4th March 1918 - 27th June 1918

Margaret Marjory Fraser was among the first Canadian nursing sisters to arrive in England for duty in October 1914. She was the daughter of the former Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Duncan Cameron Fraser, and Bessie Grant (nee Graham) Fraser. Margaret died while serving on the hospital ship Llandovery Castle, which was torpedoed off southern Ireland on 27 June 1918, while en route to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Margaret's brother, Lieutenant James Gibson Laurier Fraser, had been killed in action in France just months before, on March 4, 1918.
