25th May 1915 - 27th December 1915

Samuel Harris was a challenge to military authority. His records include a series of charges, thus:- CHESTERFIELD [Derbyshire] 25/05/15 Tuesday Absent at Tattoo from Sun 23 May to Tue 25 May Punishment 5 days Confined to Barracks & Loss of 2 days pay 10/07/15 Saturday Absent from 11.30[am?] Sat 10 July to 11.00pm Mon 12 July Punishment 5 days Confined to Barracks & Loss of 3 days pay 05/09/15 Sunday Absent from 06.15am to 07.00pm Tue 7 Sept 603/4 hours Punishment 3 days Confined to Barracks & Loss of 3 days pay GRANTHAM [Lincolnshire] 19/09/15 Sunday Neglect of duty Punishment 3 days Confined to Barracks 03/10/15 Sunday Using obscene language Punishment 7 days Confined to Barracks 23/10/15 Saturday (1) Refusing to go on parade (2) Being insolent to an NCO [Non-Commissioned Officer] (3) Absent from 08.00am to 01.30pm 5.5 hours Punishment 2 days Confined to Barracks 27/12/15 Monday Absent at Tattoo [unreadable] to Sun 28/12/15 91/2 hours Punishment 3 days Confined to Barracks Wonder if it is just coincidence that most of the above offences occurred at weekends? It seems surprising that Samuel got 7 days Confined to Barracks for obscene language, but only 2 days for combining refusing to go on duty, insolence to his NCO, and absenting himself. However, different officers handed out the punishment on those individual occasions.
