William was born on the 17th May 1897, the son of William and Gertrude (née McBride) Allison of New Westminster, British Columbia, and was employed as a bank clerk. He enlisted in the CEF on the 3rd April 1918 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was 5 ft. 11 ins [1.80m] tall, had a 'fresh' complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. William died from wounds sustained in action on the 24th February 1919 and is buried in Grave 3189, in Buxton Cemetery.
