Week ending 30th July 1915 DESBOROUGH NOTES By “The Tatler” GRAND SEND OFF – One day this week there was a grand send-off from the railway station of the Desborough men in khaki. Pte. F. Bindley, Pte. Arthur Woolerson and Pte Harry Coe. The first-named, who was in kilts and attracted much attention, belongs to the Seaforth Highlanders and the other two to the 1/4th Northants. What kissing and handshaking! How numerous the ex - pres sions of good wishes. And one good feature about it was that the men who were leaving were in good spirits and their sweethearts and others tried to be. “Tatler” got into conversation with the Seaforth Highlander and found him to be a jolly good fellow. It appeared he was home on leave for a few days and it would take him all night and the greater part of the next day to get back to his regiment. It appears from what he told me that he would have liked to enlist when war broke out, but it was not until 3rd May that he succeeded in getting on to the lists and then to Market Harborough. Up to then he had been engaged in the shoe industry. One thing I know is that he keeps in his pouch some very nice cigars. I am now “smoking his very good health.” We wish well for all of them and hope ’ere long they will return safe and sound.
