Named on the War Memorial at Leigh, Worcestershire

Born in 1890 , Alfred was the son of a fruit and hop pruner, George Davies, and his wife Harriet. George came from Bewdley, but was living at Suckley (Harriet’s native village) when Alfred was born. By 1911, the family had moved to Little Windsor, Smith End Green. Alfred served with the 7th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment (162nd Territorial Field Depot) when he died on 12 August 1918. As he was at home (that is, had been returned to England) when he died, it seems likely that he died as a result of wounds or ill health sustained as a result of his service . The death of an Alfred George Davies, aged 27, was registered in the second quarter of 1918 in Birmingham, which (if it refers to the same man) may mean he died in the military hospital there. He was buried in the cemetery at Leigh Parish Church.
