"17503 860th Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps"

"17503 860th Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps"

known 29th December 1918

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) entry for 29102 Private W Humberstone of the 17th Battalion the York and Lancaster Regiment, states he was transferred to and became 17503 Private W Humberstone of 860th Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps. Curiously, given the CWGC entry, there does not appear to be a medal card for a W or a William Humberstone with the service number 29102. And a medal card that does exist has him as being 29130 of the York and Lancaster Regiment. But, both the CWGC entry and the medal card agree that William became 17503 Private W Humberstone of the Labour Corps.
