Lance Corporal Charles Buckley is remembered on the Basra memorial, panel 27, on Preston’s Roll of Honour in the Harris Library, and St Mary’s Roll of Honour, St Mary's Church, St Mary's Street Preston. He is also remembered on the Worker's Union Roll of Honour. His next of kin were Thomas Buckley of Trout Street, and Mary Bowling of 29 Gilbert Street. In his will he left effects worth £40. He was awarded the 15 Star, the Victory and the British medals. John Buckley died in hospital in London and is buried in Preston’s cemetery. Thomas Buckley enlisted on the 25th May 1915 at the age of 38 years and 1 month. He was posted to the 11th Reserve Battalion of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, however he was discharged a year later as no longer physically fit for war service. Mary Buckley’s husband George Higgins Bowling worked at Horrockses mill. He enlisted and was made Private 46904 with the RAMC, serving in France from 26th November 1915. He survived the war, earning the 15 Star, Victory Medal and British Medal. George’s sister Ellen married Frances Shuttleworth, who died in the war and is remembered on the St Mary’s Roll of Honour, Preston.
