Pvt John Harwood 13849 York & Lancs. Born in Ryhill to Matthew and Sarah Harwood in 1887. Living at 1 Peckets Houses, Butchers shop, Ryhill in 1891. Cheapside in 1901 (learning butchery aged 14). 16 Highfield Terrace, Churchfield, Barnsley in 1911 and described as a shunter for Great Central Railways. KIA 1st July 1916 in France. Awarded the Victory and British War Medals He is also recorded on the Ryhill, Felkirk and South Hiendley Memorials.
