WILLIAM RICHARD ROBERTS – KILLED IN THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND 31.5.1916

William Richard Roberts aged 32 yrs, died in the Battle of Jutland 31.5.1916, a Gunner on board H.M.S. Invincible. William R Roberts joined the Royal Navy in 1902 at the young age of 16 and had seen much active service. He was one of the crew of the H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, and took part in the operations at the Dardanelles. Afterwards he volunteered for minesweeping, doing excellent work in this direction. Sadly, William R Roberts had arranged to be married on his next leave to Miss Winifred Brettell.
