Son of Brigadier General Lewis, C.B., D.S.O., and Mrs Lewis (nee Burn-Murdoch); husband of Gladys Marguerite Lewis. The Weekly Irish Times. Ireland's Roll of Honour. June 8, 1918 reported: "Lieutenant J C F Lewis, R.N., who is reported as lost overboard in the North Sea on April 26th, was the younger son of Brigadier General B C Lewis, C.B., of Sandbrook, County Carlow. He was educated at the New Beacon, Sevenoaks, and entered the Navy in January, 1907. He was promoted lieutenant in March, 1911, winning the Ronald Megaw Memorial Prize for his year. He served in HMS Psyche on the Australian Station from 1911-1913, appointed to HMS. Brilliant 1914, and took part in the operations off the Belgian coast in October of that year, in the course of which he was wounded. In December, 1915, he was appointed to another ship, in which he was serving at the time of his death." Record set Ireland, National Roll of Honour 1914-1921
