The Curbishley Brothers from Croft Lane

The Curbishley Brothers from Croft Lane

Joseph H Curbishley, the father of the Albert and his older brothers Harry and Leigh was for many years an estate worker at Toft Estate. The Toft estate was owned from the 17th Century by the Leycester-Roxby family and encompassed large parcels of land to the South of Knutsford in the parishes of Toft and Bexton. It was one of four estates that encompassed the town, the others being Tatton Hall estate owned by the Egerton family, Booths Hall estate owned by the Legh family and Tabley House estate owned by another branch of the Leycester family the Leycester-Warrens. The Curbishley family were housed in one of the estate cottages built for estate workers in Croft Lane (originally Molly Potts). The house was one of a pair of semi detached cottages in Croft lane. The estate sold these cottages in 2016. Albert's elder brothers survived the war and are remembered in the Knutsfordian Community on this website.
