"Jonks" or "Tonks"

"Jonks" or "Tonks"

1906

CWGC has this man's surname as "Tonks", whereas the transcription of his service record is in the name of "Jonks". Looking at the image, I am unable to come to a definite conclusion because the handwritten initial letter of his surname could be either a "J" or a "T". However, other records, including the 1911 census do sho his name as "Tonks" so it does seem most likely that his surname was, indeed TONKS.
