KIRTON Considerable regret was felt in the town when the news became current that two more local lads had made the supreme sacrifice. Mr. A. Lawman, Torksey Street, received the sad news that her husband, Pte. A.P. Lawman had been killed in action. Upon the outbreak of war he joined the York and Lancaster Regiment and went to France in December last. Mrs. Lawman has received the following letter from Sec. Lieut. E.G. England:- “It is my sorrowful duty to write and inform you of the death of your husband who was killed whilst serving his King and country on the 17th instant. He died instantly. He was a good soldier, always cheery and willing, and his loss is felt very much by myself and the rest of his Platoon. May God in His mercy be with you and comfort you in your hour of trial.”
