Additional information.

The Milward family was a major Redditch institution, the firm of Henry Milward & Sons having been founded by Philip Henry's grandfather Henry in 1850: inevitably for Redditch, they manufactured needles and fish hooks. Philip Henry Milward had served with the Durban Light Infantry in the Boer War, being awarded the Queen's Medal and three clasps. He appears to have returned from Colombo, Ceylon (where he was in business) to enlist when the Great War began.
