The Following Appears in the London Gazette dated 16 August 1917:- His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Noncommissioned Officers and Men, for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the Field :— 201607 L./Cpl. J. J. Kirkpatrick, K.O.S.B. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When he saw that no officers or N.C.O.'s were left, he rallied all the men he" could, and led them in a charge on an enemy redoubt, which he captured. He also volunteered three times to carry messages from the redoubt to the advancing troops at great personal risk.
