Married from 3 Lombard Street Sunderland to Ann G. Brown 1911 Census . Living at 29 Covent Garden Street in two rooms with daughters Mary 9 and Jane 3. Said at this stage to have had 6 children, 4 dead, Private HUTCHINSON, GEORGE Unit: 15th Bn. Regiment: Durham Light Infantry Service No: 3/10792 Date of Death: 16 September 1916 Commemoration: THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, France Pier and Face 14 A and 15 C. The Book ‘Soldiers Died in the Great War’ records that Private George Hutchinson, 3/10792 was born in Sunderland and enlisted in Sunderland. the 15th Battalion to which George, my Great Grandfather was a member first arrived in France in September 1915. They were involved in the Battle of Loos - Crowley Ridge Trench on 27 June 1916 and were one of only 2 DLI Battalions involved in Action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1 1916 near Fricourt and Serre. My Great Grandfather thus saw some action and only lasted till September 16 1916 when at the age of 36 he was killed and his body never found. The 15th were fighting near Flers and Guedecourt that fateful day. George Hutchinson 10792.
