Joseph Henry Horton Goulding was born in 1884 in Lancaster, Lancashire, the oldest child of Harry Hubert (b.1846) and Emily H. (b.1861) He was Baptised in Reddall-Hill, Stafford on the 20th April 1884. Joseph’s siblings were, Nellie A b.1887 and Percival b.1890. The 1911 Census confirmed he was an Attendant at the Long Grove Asylum in Epsom, living on site. There is a strong possibility that he married Lilian M F Gaskin in St Albans in 1915 (but this is not confirmed) His brother Percival named in the Census records is, George Percival Kimber Goulding, who was also killed in action.
