Interned Borderers' Generosity

Interned Borderers' Generosity

1st August 1918

WILL HELP THE COMRADES LEFT IN GERMANY Sergt. F. J. Goodger, 1st South Wales Borderers. a Brecon staff man now interned in Holland after nearly four years of captivity in Germany, writing to the O.C. the Depot, Brecon, says :-" Each n.c.o. and man of the battalion in Holland would.like to subscribe to the Prisoners of War Fund for our comrades still in Germany. It has been proposed that each of us should give so much, and the amount would be paid to you by the Regimental Paymaster from our credits. We have suffered in Germany and know what treatment the Huns give out to the English, and while we are having a fairly good time in Holland we do not wish to forget those of our comrades we have left behind in Germany. It has been proposed that the money given should go towards sending them smokes, which they cannot obtain in Germany, and which I think they would like." We are pleased to be able to add that arrangements are being made to give full effect to the generous resolve and wishes of Sergt. Goodger and his comrades. Regular readers of the County Times will remember, probably, that a letter to this paper from Sergt. Goodger was instrumental in. helping to establish the regular supply of comforts, etc., to South Wales Borderers who were captured during the early stages of the war.
