Kate trained as a nurse at Poplar and Stepney Sick Asylum, in Bromley-by-Bow, starting work there in May 1912. She joined Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve in May 1915, her application stating that her father William was serving as a Company Sergeant Major in the Royal Garrison Artillery. She was posted to Malta in July 1915, and served there as a Staff Nurse at St Andrew’s Military Hospital. Returning to England at the end of June 1916, Kate renewed her contract for home service and, after a short period of leave, was posted to Frensham Hill Military Hospital on 15th July. Just over a month later, on 25th August 1916, she was admitted to Vincent Square Hospital, where she died on 13th December.
